A good, easy read

Many times I want a book to read that is just very easy reading, but still holds my attention and Jessica Beck's books always meet that criteria. If you have not tried her books and want just an easy read, try this one and her other "donut shop" books.

Great series, good book

The Donut Shop Mystery series is about Suzanne Hart who owns a donut shop called Donut Hearts. This is the fifth installment in the series.
1. Glazed murder
2. Fatally frosted

5. Tragic toppings
In previous books, Suzanne has investigated some of murders that have occurred in her small town with the help of her friends- Grace, retired cop George, and her boyfriend, state police investigator Jake. Tragic Toppings begins with Suzanne investigating the disappearance of Emily, a local newsstand owner. She is able to quickly crack the case, but later that night she finds a dead body hanging in the park. It's Tim, a local handyman who was well liked by all. Of course Suzanne starts digging into the case and this time, Jake is not on a job somewhere and is able to help. They quickly discover that Tim was quite a ladies' man, so the suspects are plenty.
Tragic Toppings is another good book in this series. The characters are their usual quirky selves and the mystery has lots of twists and turns. I would like to see more drama in their personal lives, just to have an interesting back story. I am eager to read the next one!

"Tragic Toppings" by Jessica Beck. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these books. They, to me, are fun and fluffy and cozy and comfortable. However, they are not for everybody.
I love the small town of April Springs, NC. I have never been to North Carolina, except a plane stopover, it that counts. I have, however, lived in the South all my life, so I can relate to that dimension of it. I love Suzanne, the main character, and I also love Emma, her assistant, and also Grace, her best friend. But most of all, I love Momma, Dorothy. She is the sweetest, most loving person and mother ever. Suzanne is so lucky to have her as a mother.
I also love Napoli's, an Italian restaurant in the next town over. The owner, Angelica, is Suzanne's personal friend, and Angelica and her three daughters make homemade pasta. I want to eat there!!!!
I love Donut Hearts, the donut shop owned by Suzanne. Even though I don't eat donuts any more for a couple of different reasons, it is still a cozy situation.
I also love George. He is a very good person and a friend of Suzanne's. He is loyal and awesome. If Suzanne and Jake don't work out, I wonder if Suzanne and George will get together.
I love this book, and all the books in this series. To me, it is a soft, lovely, fun, cozy, warm, comfortable, fluffy mystery series.
Now, on to the review of this particular book:
There is a murder (because this is a murder mystery), and Suzanne and Grace find the body. They are determined to find the killer. Jake and George help them find the killer. George walks with a cane because he had an accident in the last book. He is a retired police officer, so he loves opportunities to help out investigating. The foursome split up and talk to people. While Suzanne is busy trying to run her donut shop AND find the killer, something else happens that hinders her being able to do both (I can't tell you what it is because I don't want to ruin the book for those who haven't read it yet). She also gets a warning message to lay off investigating.
Meanwhile, her mother, the lovely widow, is trying to start dating again. They (she and the guy) keep having setbacks and problems in that department. I kept wondering if they will ever actually get a decent date in!
This is a really good book. I enjoyed it so much.
