MIKE MARKEL is director of technical communication at Boise State University, where he teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses. The former editor of IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication, he is the author of numerous articles and six books about technical communication, including Ethics and Technical Communication: A Critique and Synthesis.

The textbook

Seller had the book shipped and delivered promptly; the day before I needed it. That was excellent timing considering I ordered it later than I should have.
My only problem with the book was the relatively high cost. This is attributed to its very recent publication date for this edition, though there is not much changed from the 8th or earlier editions. One will find the book to be somewhat useless once reading/attempting to learn from it; most articles inside are common sense or have nothing truly to do with Technical (science, engineering, math, etc) Writing but more with Business (marketing, sales pitches, stock exchange letters, useless etc) Writing.
However, the book is required for an Engineering technical writing course at a university/college, it is just a shame the book does not live up to its intended purpose. The layouts, drafts, and Intentions purposes of the book, as well as being a "stand alone MLA handbook" makes up for the fact that the author/university relation is a bit lacking.
This Seller however, did a superb job. 5 Stars all the way.

Outdated

This book is really outdated and is not really practical for the modern world. I mean, some of these things are useful, because some things do not change with the passing of time. All technological reference about modern technology is outdated. Seriously outdated. Some of the things do not even make sense to me, because it went out of style years ago. The book is okay, but not okay when it comes to technology. Do not read it for that. You would be wasting your time.

tech comm book

I am using this book for a technical writing class. I find it very helpful. There are checklists at the end of each chapter to let you check if you have the necessary components in the documents you write. I will be keeping this book in hopes that it will help me in my professional career.
